Whale shark feeding at night, Southern Atolls – Maldives, Feb 2014.
Guadalupe 5th-10th Sept 2014
The great white shark must be seen in person to be able to fully appreciate these incredible creatures. The best place to do this is in Guadalupe. Nowhere else offers the combination of visibility, sheer numbers of great whites and close encounters.
The boat has two cages. One will be placed on the surface throughout the stay. Divers may use the surface cage anytime while there is sunlight during the day. Air supply will be available through lines and divers on the surface will not need tanks/bcd or fins. Weight belt harnesses are provided for stability.
The submersible cage will also be deployed three times a day. Divers will require full scuba gear, As there will be two groups of divers, the 4 days of diving in the submersible cage will be split into 2 dives/day for 2 days and 1 dive/day for the other 2 days. All other times, the surface cage is free to use and can accommodate 5 divers easily.
The shots shown here are photos of the trip from 2013 and the embedded video shows surface cage action from the same trip.
Places are VERY limited (Especially for submersible cage divers). Please contact us early to book your spot.
Pick up 7.30am 5th Sept, San Diego hotel (Along or near Mission Boulevard)
Drop off 3pm 10th Sept, San Diego hotel / Airport
Departure point is Ensenada, Mexico. Arrival one day ahead of the ship’s departure date, in order to avoid the possibility of missing luggage at last minute is suggested, either if you are flying into San Diego, CA or Tijuana, Mexico.
Pick up time on departure day will be 08:00 from the hotel in San Diego. We MUST be early otherwise we will lose the first morning of diving. It takes 18 hours to reach Guadalupe island from the port and it takes 1 1/2hrs to reach the port from the hotel.
WHAT IS INCLUDED ?
All meals, soft drinks, beer and wine is included in moderate quantities. You are welcome to bring extra beer or hard liquor, but be aware that alcoholic beverages cannot be consumed until the dive day is over.
PORT DEPARTURE FEES, as well as the NATURAL PARK FEES
are not included, so, please bring with you
$80 USD, as payment will be required when you come aboard the vessel.
WHAT TO BRING ABOARD ?
Water temperature will probably be around 19-22 Celsius, or 68-74 F, so, we suggest a 5/7 mm wetsuit. Remember that we have surface cages and also submersible cages, thus, if you wish to use the submersible cage, bring with you your BCD and Regulator, besides wetsuit, booties, mask and fins. Service your regulator ahead of time and make sure it works properly prior to your trip.
Clothing aboard is very casual, so, t-shirts, shorts and sandals, plus a light jacket will do.
Your Diver Certification card is a must, please bring it with you if you want to use our submersible cage. If you are not a certified diver, you can only dive in our surface cages with hookah air supply.
If you are not a Mexican citizen, you are required to carry with you a valid passport. An FMT form, or Mexican tourist visa is necessary ($25 USD), a copy of both documents has to be filed for each passenger boarding the vessel. Please scan and email your passport ahead of time so that we can file the manifest and avoid delays.
Underwater Photo Workshop and Critter Hunt Trip at Dauin, Negros Oriental, Philippines.
Underwater Photographers EunJae Im, Kay Burn Lim will lead the trip.
Come join us on this Maldives expedition aboard the 147-feet luxurious Maldives Princess Liveaboard.
Currently the biggest liveaboard vessel in the Maldives, the huge furnished staterooms rival most 5 star hotel rooms. A huge modern galley allows the chef to produce excellent meals and a jacuzzi on the top deck complete with DVD player lets you unwind in style after the day’s dives!
The diving in the Maldives is superb. However, from past trips, we feel that there are some sites that are much better than others.
Instead of wasting time and stopping along the way, we intend to pick the best spots that will offer the most for the keen underwater photographer. Signature sites such as Maaya Thilla will of course be included. Diving is all conducted via a Dohny that travels alongside the mother ship. Nitrox is also available.Although this will be a dive photography oriented trip, the luxury liveaboard caters to the leisure diver too. It’s not all hard core diving if you prefer to just kick back and relax. A well stocked (and reasonably priced) bar with a competent barman, extensive wine list, Kayaks are available for use and trips to remote islands (where we will have a BBQ night) can all be organized. From our experience, if you don’t take it easy on some days, you will miss the best of what the Maldives has to offer! Blue skies, turquoise water and white powder sand….
